In Loving Memory

  Peter Karoly
Peter Karoly
Born: March 1, 1953 in Allentown, PA
Died: February 2, 2007

IN MEMORIUM

On  2 February 2007, a fatal airplane accident in New Bedford, Massachusetts took the lives of Peter J. Karoly and his wife Dr. Lauren B. Angstadt along with their pilot Michael Milot. Peter and Lauren were founders and principal owners of Image Medical Corporation, parent of eRAD Inc.

Peter J. Karoly was born in Allentown, Pennsylvania where he owned and operated a highly successful personal injury and medical malpractice law firm at the time of his death. Lauren B. Angstadt grew up in Kutztown, Pennsylvania where she was an active sportsperson and musician. Dr. Angstadt specialized in general and cosmetic dentistry at her own practice in Allentown from 1987 until her death.

Peter and Lauren were entrepreneurs having founded or owned a number of diverse businesses. One of their interests provided minor league professional baseball in the area for nine years via the Allentown Ambassadors of the Northern League. Other interests included the Haviland Grill in Allentown and a number of non-claustrophobic MRI Centers in Pennsylvania and South Carolina.

Peter and Lauren’s  knowledge of medicine and diagnostic imaging led to the founding of eRAD Inc. in 1999. Their notion of internet based delivery of studies would fulfill their goal of improved patient care and grater operating efficiency. Peter, as Chairman of the Board and CEO, was a visionary and driving force for operating the business. He was the prime mover for merging eRAD with Image Medical Corp. to form the entity as it is today. He successfully guided the growth of the business with emphasis on providing innovative technology for the 200 eRAD clients. In recent years, Peter focused on building infrastructure. He set customer satisfaction as a priority and was constantly building his employee base and management team. Peter and Lauren’s legacy is the foresight that allows eRAD to continue the delivery of outstanding quality and value to the PACS community.

In Memory of Peter the following comments were submitted:

In the days ahead, we will continue the pursuit of success for eRAD and our lives as Pete would have wanted. We will continue with the same passion for work and life, and the compassion he felt for others. He was my friend for 17 years and my boss for the last 8, and what a ride it has been. I will never forget the phone call about the idea he had for starting eRAD, the plan he had for moving images across the internet (a novel idea at the time) and how he wanted me to be a part of it. He was my mentor (as he would frequently say he created a little monster) and my dear friend. His bear hugs, smile and bellowing laughter will be missed. My life is so much better for having known him.

Roberta and I met Peter and Lauren on our Australian Tour, almost three years ago. We immediately became close friends.. They were wonderful travel companions, who were always helping us.

At Peters request I joined him as a director of his company eRAD Inc. In this capacity we got to know both Peter and Lauren much better.

We had a wonderful visit with them at their beautiful home in Williamsburg and later on we spent another wonderful week together at our home in Los Angeles.

Peter was probably the most brilliant person we had ever met, while at the same time being warm, friendly, generous and fun to be with. He had a phenomenal memory and a quick, logical and probing mind, along with great entrepreneurial talents.

Lauren was her own person. Besides being beautiful she was a very successful professional in her own right. In addition she too was a very warm and outgoing person who was great company to be with.

They enhanced our life in many ways.

We loved them both and their passing leaves us with a hole in our hearts. There will never be another dynamic duo like them, and we miss them greatly.

I had the pleasure of working for/with Peter for 2 ½ years. He was nothing less than an inspiration to me. He not only treated those he employed with respect, but, he actually cared about everyone as well. I will miss his warm smile and hugs when he visited our office.

You could say a lot of things about Pete.  But, the thing I will most remember is that he was a good human being.  That doesn’t sound like much, but think about it.  How many people have you known that, if asked to make one comment, you would say that about?  Enough said.

eRAD lost a member of their family, a leader, an inspiration,
a confidant and most of all,
a friend.
